Website Design Makeover for Popular Design-Styled Drigg Site DesignBump

DesignBump Logo After Digg’s huge success, there were bound to be many copycat sites. The first popular site exploding on the net was Design Float, a great Digg-style site made for graphic and web designers. Soon after Design Float had many failures regarding server capacity and traffic loads, a new site based on Drigg (plugin for Drupal to act as a Digg site) sprung into the market. This site was DesignBump.

I have used DesignBump a few times to gain some traffic to my blog, and I have noticed a very large increase in the number of referring visitors. The site has grown substantially in the past month or two, and it has really started to enter the “mainstream”. However, DesignBump was recently down for a day or two after performing some renovations to their design… and what great renovations they did!

For one, DesignBump now has real logo and branding to it: the arrows. Shown in the background, the logo, and next to each “bump it” box are pictures of a blue, red, and yellow arrow. These are also used in the site’s favicon, and seem to be a recurring theme throughout the site. This is a great movement towards helping DesignFloat into the main theme, as now icons can be made for blog footers among many other things!

Another thing I noticed is the sleek login textfields. After focusing on the username / password field, the default text will fade away, allowing you to enter your username / password and sign in. Although not a drastic change, DesignBump has clearly spent quite a bit of time working on this redesign. I must applaud them for their efforts and say that I am a huge fan of the new DesignBump. I look forward to seeing where this website takes off, and also how competitor site Design Float deals with the new competition!

Nice post, I really like the new design and as mentioned the new arrow identity is much more effective than before.

The new design is much better. Likewise, I have found the traffic from that site to have gone up a lot in the last 3 months.
